| No TrackBacks

As you probably know, the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal has knocked out a legendary coach. But while the football impact of the sex scandal has seemingly dominated the headlines, one should not forget the true victims of the crimes -- the children -- or the real criminals alleged to have been involved in the case.

The Jerry Sandusky criminal charges make for a disgusting list. He's been charged with 40 criminal counts (so far) due to his alleged sex abuse and rape of underage boys through his charitable foundation for at-risk youths, announced the Attorney General's Office. Here's what he faces:

  • Seven counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, all first-degree felonies which are each punishable by up to 20 years in prison
  • One count of aggravated indecent assault, a second-degree felony punishable by up to ten years in prison
  • Four counts of unlawful contact with a minor, all first-degree felonies which are each punishable by up to 20 years in prison
  • Four counts of unlawful contact with a minor, all third-degree felonies which are each punishable by up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine
  • Four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, all third-degree felonies which are each punishable by up to seven years in prison
  • Four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, all first-degree misdemeanors which are each punishable by up to five years in prison
  • Eight counts of corruption of minors, all first-degree misdemeanors which are each punishable by up to five years in prison
  • One count of indecent assault, a third-degree felony punishable by up to seven years in prison
  • Four counts of indecent assault, all second-degree misdemeanors which are each punishable by up to two years in prison
  • Two counts of indecent assault, all first-degree misdemeanors which are each punishable by up to five years in prison
  • One count of attempt to commit indecent assault, a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison

Along with Sandusky, both Penn State Athletic Director Tim Curley and Senior Vice President Gary Schultz face two criminal counts each for allegedly failing to report the abuse and then making false statements to a grand jury investigating the assaults.

  • One count of perjury each, a third-degree felony punishable by up to seven years in prison
  • One count each of failure to report child abuse each a summary offense punishable by up to 90 days in prison

As you can see, the Jerry Sandusky criminal charges are long. In addition, senior school officials were also charged with several crimes. Notably absent from the list of suspected criminals is the man getting all the attention -- Joe Paterno.
